By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another. John 13:35
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We believe that God is One – revealed to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Incarnate, Living Word of God – the ultimate expression of God's revelation of God's self to us. Jesus is the exact representation of God's person, purpose, and character.

We believe the Bible is the inspired, written record of God's revelation to people, and that scripture must be interpreted in the light of the person, work, and mission of Jesus – the Living Word of God. We further believe that the Bible should be interpreted with respect to historical context, textual context, eternal principles, and application to the needs of the present culture.

We believe that God is a God of love who loves all people with an unconditional, compassionate, sacrificial, and redemptive love.

We believe all persons are sinners, short of God's character, and stand in need of God's redemptive love.

We believe God's love is ultimately expressed in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus lived to fully reveal God's love for us, died to fully pay the price for our redemption from sin, and rose again to affect eternal life for the believer.

We believe God's love becomes effective in our lives as we believe and receive God's love by faith. God's accepting, redemptive love is available to all who believe.

We believe God's love compels us to love others as God loves us. All our ministry activity and relationships one with another should be based on God's love for us.

We believe it is our privilege and responsibility to be forgiving, accepting, and redeeming in all of our relationships and activities.

We believe that God's love bonds believers together into one body – and that believers are members one of another, responsible for and to one another in the Spirit of Christ’s love.

We believe that the goal for God's love for us is to reproduce God's character of love in us and to multiply God's love through us. Thereby, we become God's witnesses to the world fulfilling God's great commission for us.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is God and that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ leading and empowering us to live in the character and purpose of Jesus.

We believe in soul freedom, the priesthood of all believers and the competency of the soul. We believe that every person is free and responsible to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ without the imposition of creed, the control of clergy, church, or government, or manipulation by another’s faith.

We believe in freedom of biblical interpretation and application. We believe that Jesus is the Living Word of God and that every believer in Jesus has the freedom, privilege, and responsibility to interpret Scripture in light of their knowledge of, call of, and relationship to Jesus Christ.

We believe in church freedom – that every local congregation is autonomous and free under the Lordship of Christ to determine their own membership, worship style and practice, ministries, and affiliations.

We believe in religious freedom and the separation of church and state. We believe that the state has no authority over the church in matters of faith and the church should not use the state to promote its own cause.

We believe that this Affirmation of Faith is not comprehensive, conclusive, complete, nor compelling. This is a general statement of faith made by the people who first covenanted together to be the body known as Haven Fellowship Church. This Affirmation of Faith may be edited or amended as the body deems wise for unity of the body and the effectiveness of the church’s ministry.
