Genesis Commentary Recommendations
As I prepare sermons through the book of Genesis, I rely on a variety of resources to help me understand the text faithfully and teach it clearly. Genesis is one of the most important books in Scripture because it lays the foundation for the entire biblical story. Themes such as creation, sin, covenant, redemption, and God’s purpose for His people all begin here and continue throughout the rest of the Bible.
The recommendations below are resources I have personally used and found helpful while studying Genesis. They represent a range of formats and levels of depth, from study Bibles and accessible commentaries to more advanced scholarly works.
This list is intended both to help readers study Genesis more deeply and to provide transparency into some of the resources behind this sermon series. The recommendations are grouped by level of depth so readers can easily find something that fits their needs, whether they are reading Genesis for personal growth, leading a Bible study, or preparing sermons and lessons. I’ve highlighted my top recommendations with a ⭐.
Because this series frequently explores God’s design for His people and connects Genesis to the broader story of redemption, I’ve also included a few recommendations on Ephesians, a book that provides important theological foundations for understanding the Church as the Body of Christ.
