3 in 1+1 – What Your Identity in Christ Means

1. It’s Not About You

Our new identity in Christ as heirs brings with it some things we need to understand. When you become one with Christ your outlook should be “what can I do to bring glory to God. Yourself needs to take 2nd place, and Christ first place. This is easy to say, but hard to do.

1 John 2:15-17

If we aren’t seeking to find our identity in Christ we are seeking the wrong thing. When our identity is in the eternal things of Christ we won’t fall in to pride from worldly success or despair over disappointments or tragedy. We will not get lost in trying to aquire the attractive but empty things the world has to offer.

2. It’s Not About Fear

You did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. We spend a lot of time talking about the peace of God.  If we are going to have peace with God that means we have nothing to fear on earth. If you know your future is secure what are you afraid of?

As adopted sons and daughters of God we don’t have to fear anything. We can trust that God can provide for us anything we need.

3. It’s Not About Judging

We don’t have to compare ourselves to others. Everybody has different gifts.

Romans 14:5-8

People spend an inordinate amount of time comparing themselves to others. They let the life get sucked out of them. But God gives us hard and fast truths to follow. Trying to make decisions based on others makes it harder to live. We need to not impose our personal convictions on others because we think we are more Godly.

Walk in confidence knowing God is the only one you need to please. Don’t miss out on the blessing that you can receive by serving God with what you have and where you are.

4. It IS About Your Identity

God has included all of us in his inheritance. It is your identity and my identity.  This started back in the beginning. And we look back to that because of what we are today because of God, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

You can’t talk about God without talking about relationships. God’s relationship in the trinity + you. It’s an infinite + 1, so that more can be added to that relationship.

From the beginning of time that dynamic power of love has been at the heart of God’s identity and character and it’s now been passed on to us.  When we talk about the Trinity we haven’t captured the essence of it until we understand the + 1. Until we understand you and your part.
